Spectra Goes Live With Intranet Business Intelligence Tools
Manufacturing Process is Streamlined
Spectra, Inc. of Hanover, NH a world leader in print-head technology has given their employees new tools in order to improve their access to critical information.
Utilizing the Cognos enterprise business intelligence tools, Spectra has addressed the information needs of Finance, Engineering, Customer Service, and Purchasing. The most beneficial so far however has been the Impromptu Web Reports application built for one of Spectra's state-of-the-art clean rooms. In a clean environment, information must be provided on-line because the use of printers is taboo. Spectra wanted to increase the flow of parts through their Kanban cells, and that meant increasing the flow of information.
Spectra and Christopher S. Greaney Consulting constructed an Impromptu Web Reports, Bill of Material navigation method that allows the manufacturing cell to immediately view any level of the bill of material for an assembly. In addition, the user can see what is in inventory, available, or on order, for parts at any level. Drill through to details is used if the user needs to look at individual purchase orders, or inventory warehouses, and locations.
"Shortages can be a problem in any manufacturing environment, and we felt this was a way to avoid this by providing proactive information to our manufacturing cell", said Richard Rogers, Director of Information Technology. "Feedback about the information and the tools has been overwhelmingly positive."
